UIDAI Sets Phased Aadhaar Service Fee Increases from October 1

India’s Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI) will implement higher charges for Aadhaar enrolment centre services in two phases beginning October 1, 2025. Fees for demographic updates will rise from ₹50 to ₹75, while biometric updates will increase from ₹100 to ₹125. A second revision scheduled for October 1, 2028 sets the rates at ₹90 and ₹150, with the new pricing in effect until September 30, 2031.

New Aadhaar enrolments remain free, and mandatory biometric updates for children aged five to seven and teens between 15 and 17 will continue to be provided at no cost, with UIDAI covering the expense. Updates for children aged seven to 15 and for residents older than 17 will follow the revised biometric fee schedule, according to Mathrubhumi.

UIDAI is also extending its focus on digital channels. The free online “document update” option through the myAadhaar portal will remain available until June 14, 2026, after which a fee is expected to apply. Offline updates at centres already incur charges, noted The Economic Times. UIDAI’s service centre pages still display the older ₹50 and ₹100 rates at the time of writing, but media coverage and UIDAI announcements confirm the revised fee schedule takes effect October 1.

The change affects routine processes such as updating addresses, names, or phone numbers, and refreshing biometrics as required. Families are particularly impacted, as UIDAI enforces mandatory biometric updates for children by age seven, which are free if completed on time but otherwise charged. Recent initiatives, including a school-based enrolment drive, highlight the importance of timely updates. Earlier coverage outlined UIDAI’s policy shift in mandating biometric updates for children and plans for school-based enrolment.

The updated fee structure comes alongside UIDAI’s efforts to expand authentication methods and convenience options. The authority has introduced face authentication for private sector apps, reaffirmed the role of one-time passwords, and launched a mobile app for QR-based sharing and at-home profile updates.

These changes, detailed in reporting on expanded face authentication access, OTP’s role in Aadhaar’s authentication framework, and mobile app rollouts, reflect UIDAI’s strategy to balance stronger identity assurance with more flexible service delivery.
