UAE Retailer Uses Iris ID Tech for Biometric Attendance Tracking

Iris ID’s scanners can be used even with subjects wearing glasses or contact lenses.

Iris ID has a big new client in the United Arab Emirates. The company’s IrisAccess iCAM7000 biometric time and attendance tracking technology has been installed in Sharjah Co-Operative Society’s retail stores.

It represents a considerable store network—26 in total, with over 3,000 employees. Those staff will now use iris scanning to clock in and out, with Iris ID’s system connected to Sharjah’s central payroll system.

In a statement announcing the deployment,the iris biometrics company explained that a previous, fingerprint-based biometric attendance system used by Sharjah proved unsatisfactory; it saw a high false rejection rate, in large part due to its inability to handle the henna hand tattoos popular among many women working at Sharjah stores. That isn’t an issue with Iris ID’s technology, and its scanners can be used even with subjects who are wearing glasses or contact lenses.

Together with the access control deployment at CERN in Geneva announced earlier this year, the Sharjah project illustrates the breadth of applications for Iris ID’s iris scanning technology, which has also seen major border control and civil ID deployments in recent months.
