Trust Stamp (IDAI) has reached an important milestone with the USPTO’s allowance of their patent application for “Shape Overlay for Proof of Liveness” technology. The innovation is meant to address the growing threat of deepfake and injection attacks in remote authentication systems, building on the company’s established track record in privacy-conscious biometric solutions.
The newly allowed patent introduces an interactive challenge-response mechanism that requires users to engage with randomly generated shape overlays displayed on their device screens. The real-time verification process makes it substantially more difficult for malicious actors to circumvent biometric security systems using pre-recorded or AI-generated content.
“The rise of deepfake technology poses a significant threat to biometric security, and our solution provides an additional line of defense,” said Andrew Gowasack, President and Co-Founder of Trust Stamp. “By incorporating interactive liveness verification, we make biometric authentication far more resilient against injection attacks and fraudulent access attempts.”
Trust Stamp has continued to expand its technological capabilities through strategic partnerships and development of AI-powered authentication solutions. Unlike many solutions requiring specialized hardware, Trust Stamp’s system operates on standard smartphones, making it both accessible and cost-effective for widespread implementation.
Dr. Norman Poh, Chief Science Officer of Trust Stamp, highlighted this accessibility: “This solution offers a highly adaptable challenge-response mechanism that can be implemented on any smartphone, regardless of make or budget. By eliminating the need for specialized hardware, we ensure that robust biometric security is available to everyone.”
The patent allowance strengthens Trust Stamp’s position in the biometric authentication market, following their recent USPTO patent for cross-platform biometric interoperability. The technology addresses critical security needs across various sectors, including financial services, healthcare, and government, where protecting digital identities is paramount.
