Seeking to further fuel its growth, Trust Stamp has made another important executive appointment, announcing biometrics specialist Prof. Reuben Farrugia as its new Malta Research Director.
In a statement, Trust Stamp hailed Prof. Farrugia as “an internationally recognized authority in biometrics with nearly two decades of experience in image processing and computer vision” technologies. Farrugia is an Associate Professor of Communications and Computer Engineering at the University of Malta. In 2013, he was appointed as the National Contact Point for the European Association of Biometrics, and the next year he served as the General Chair of the IEEE International Workshop on Biometrics and Forensics.
“Trust Stamp has established a strong research-oriented science team with experts in artificial intelligence, cryptography, and biometrics, whose global backgrounds and diverse experience have driven innovation as the basis for the Company’s rapid success over the last six years,” explained Trust Stamp’s Chief Technology Officer, Scott Francis. “Reuben is a valuable addition to our team with exceptional insight and a highly developed skillset in the field of biometrics.”
Prof. Farrugia’s appointment comes shortly after the announcement that Josh Allen had been named CEO of the company’s Trust Stamp Malta and Trust Stamp Rwanda subsidiaries. The Malta unit serves as the European hub of Trust Stamp’s R&D efforts.
Both appointments have come in the wake of Trust Stamp’s uplisting from the OTCQX to the Nasdaq stock exchange near the start of this year, which CEO Gareth N. Genner described as an “important progression” for the company after “a record year indicative of [Trust Stamp’s] sustained positioning for company-wide growth”.
Trust Stamp has been making a name for itself with identity security technology including a cryptographic solution designed to turn identifying information into what Trust Stamp calls an “Irreversibly Transformed Identity Token”, as well face, palm, and fingerprint biometrics technologies. The company recently received funding from Malta Enterprise, the country’s economic development agency, to support its work on a QR code-based solution for accessing medical data.
