Jenetric GmbH, a fingerprint biometrics developer, has unveiled a new fingerprint scanning system at this year’s Global Identity Summit in Tampa. In a statement, the company says that its LiveTouch quattro “has created a new class of fingerprint identification products.”
The basis of the claim is essentially that the LiveTouch quattro features a digital display beneath a transparent fingerprint sensor. It isn’t quite a fingerprint scanner built into a touchscreen – a longstanding goal of mobile device heavyweights such as Apple – but it’s a step in that direction. The company says that the fact that “graphical elements, animations or movies” can be displayed beneath the touchscreen could prove useful in implementing a more intuitive user interface, particularly in self-service installations.
Beyond that novelty, though, it’s also an impressively accurate system. According to Jenetric, the close proximity of the image sensor to the finger being scanned allows for an improved image contrast. As such, its the first device that is fully certified for the FBI’s Mobile ID FAP 60 requirements.
Jenetric is at booth #501 at GIS, where it is showing off its technology in live demonstrations.
