ThreatMetrix has announced a new update to its eponymous digital authentication and threat detection platform.
Processing authentication transactions on the “ThreatMetrix Digital Identity Network”, the platform is designed to detect potential fraud and online attacks for client businesses. Now, with its “Summer ’16 Release”, the platform offers new authentication capabilities, including mobile biometrics on iOS and Android via the ThreatMetrix Mobile SDK 4.0, authentication via SMS or even voice message, and geolocation via cell tower and Wi-Fi hotspot, which is integrated with what the company calls a “behavioral analytics and rules engine” to enable more passive authentication.
In a statement announcing the update, ThreatMetrix Chief Products Officer Alisdair Faulkner highlighted the geolocation feature, asserting that by incorporating it the company is “greatly enhancing the precision of our fraud detection so customers can make even more informed authentication and policy decisions.” Faulkner added that the platform can also leverage “a user’s network environment”, which “provides granular level insight without requiring personally identifiable information.”
While the company’s use of such passive authentication technologies helps to make its platform competitive in a growing digital security market, the platform’s use of the biometric capabilities now proliferating on mobile devices keeps it on trend among a range of other organizations that are now seeking to leverage systems like Touch ID for customer authentication.
