This week’s top FindBiometrics stories place the spotlight on digital IDs and vaccine passports. We also touch on the digital transformation of the financial and air travel industries, and the password habits of the younger generation.
Our first story is the new terminal that is now under construction at Kansas City International Airport. The new facility will have 39 gates, and will be outfitted with smart building technology from Siemens and biometric passenger screening technology from SITA:
SITA and Siemens to Facilitate Digital Transformation of Kansas City Airport
From there, we turn our attention to Estonia, where the government will start issuing biometric identity cards on August 23. The IDs will store the owner’s fingerprint on a chip embedded in the card, and will allow Estonia to comply with a new European Union law that states that member states must introduce biometric IDs before the end of 2021:

The NIST surveyed 1,500 children between the ages of eight and 18 to find out how younger generations are using passwords. They found that children often have fewer passwords than their parents, though they did find that they exhibit many of the same behaviors. Most notably, children still have a tendency to reuse passwords, and high schoolers like to share passwords to build trust with their friends:

A growing number of commercial establishments are now asking visitors to show proof of vaccination. Vaccine passports allow people to store those health credentials on their phones, and will often use biometrics to link that credential to the holder’s identity to provide an even greater level of assurance:
What Are Vaccine Passports and How Do They Work?
Finally, Banco Santander has selected FacePhi as its preferred supplier of biometric identity verification technology. FacePhi’s facial recognition platform will enable remote onboarding and biometric authentication for Banco Santander customers all over the world:
