Biometric and identification technology provider Suprema announced this morning that its fingerprint compression algorithms have received the latest version of the FBI’s Wavelet Scalar Quantization (WSQ) Certification.
This specific brand of FBI certification demands the highly accurate implementation of WSQ Gray-Scale Fingerprint Image Compression Specification (version 3.1), which is regarded as the latest standard for the exchange of fingerprint images in law enforcement and other verticals that trade in biometrics.
Young S. Moon, Suprema’s vice president, calls increasing standardization in biometrics essential for industry growth.
Moon commented on the news saying, “With the current FBI certification of the WSQ algorithm, we can now provide a complete set of certified fingerprint live scan solutions including FBI approved live scanners and PIV approved fingerprint recognition algorithms.”
The WSQ specification concerns the exchange of 8-bit, 500ppi fingerprint images. It defines a class of encoders and decoders capable of inter-operation for the transfer of said biometric data.
Somewhat of a regular fixture here at FindBiometrics, Suprema frequently makes the industry news regarding physical access control. Along with Entertech Systems, its operating partner in Canada, the US, the UK and Ireland, Suprema is often the topic of discussion when we talk about breaking down the barriers of biometric adoption in security.
