Thales has announced a new “Thales Evidence and Investigation Suite” (or “TEIS”) aimed at offering a range of technological solutions for forensics investigations. The Suite supports multiple biometric modalities, including face, fingerprint, iris, and palm biometrics.
The TEIS is an amalgam of distinct solutions, including the Thales Cogent LiveScan software for criminal booking, and Thales’ Cogent Automated biometric Identification System, or CABIS. The latter is a multimodal biometric matching tool aimed at helping investigators to get answers quickly, and it has been deployed in over 80 countries, Thales says.
Another component of the TEIS is Thales’ Cogent ACE-V Manager, a software package designed to offer investigators an intuitive system for organizing evidence and annotations. Likewise, the Cogent Mugshot System (CMS) is designed to offer a web-based tool for creating and editing mugshot lineups and booking records.
Then there’s the software enabling biometric matching in the field. Cogent WebID offers a web-based system for comparing live fingerprints to templates stored in a database, and can run on a Bluetooth-enabled mobile handheld or a USB device. Cogent MobileID is designed to run on a commercially available Android phone or tablet, and is designed to format captured biometric data into NIST-standard records for comparison via state databases.
All told, the TEIS is a solution “created by experts with extensive field knowledge for experts,” according to Thales’ Public Security Solutions Director, Luc Tombal.
“Thanks to the ultra-mobile multifunction application, each investigator can benefit from having a biometric forensic lab at the palm of their hand that strives to simplify and accelerate the procedure,” he said. “Time optimization is crucial in investigations, and this unique approach allows access to vital information within minutes, expediting criminal case resolutions compared to the traditional days-long process.”
