Telpo Releases New Temperature Detecting Biometric Terminal

Another biometric solutions provider has started offering temperature detection technology in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Telpo has released the TPS980T Pro, a new face recognition terminal that is able to take people’s temperature as part of the identity verification process.

The TPS980T Pro can take the temperatures of four people simultaneously, and is effective at a distance of up to two meters. If the terminal spots someone with a fever, it will set off an alarm to notify security personnel and allow them to take the appropriate response.

Fever is one of the symptoms of COVID-19, so a screening tool like the TPS980T Pro can help to ensure a safe environment as schools, businesses, and other public spaces start to reopen in the wake of the pandemic. The fact that the terminal can scan multiple people at the same time should help in that regard, allowing venue operators to screen visitors more efficiently.

Telpo offers an SDK, an application, and a cloud platform to support customers using the new terminal. The company’s facial recognition algorithm can also be used to identify people who are wearing masks, which means users can still follow public health guidelines while interacting with the device.

The news comes in the wake of similar announcements from companies like Vuzix, everis, and Hytera, who are currently pushing thermal imaging technology as a potential countermeasure to COVID-19. Thermal solutions have already been deployed on city buses in China, and will likely be implemented elsewhere as border control agencies around the world scramble to update their screening capabilities.
