TECH5-Solem Solution Applies Biometric Test-Tracking in Chile’s Fight Against COVID

TECH5 has teamed up with Chile-based IT engineering consultancy Solem on a biometric solution aimed at helping to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The solution is designed to tie an individual’s face biometrics to their COVID-19 test results, enabling a kind of biometric health credential that can be used to trace the virus and manage infections through quarantines. The biometric matching is facilitated via T5-Face, TECH5’s flagship facial recognition solution.

“The solution is fully inclusive even for those workers who do not have a smartphone, as onboarding can be done in the clinic prior to testing,” explained Solem Product Manager Victor Parra. “The same solution can be used in cases when symptoms are suspected to make sure that the person has taken a rapid test, avoiding in this way the entry of a person with positive virus detection into a worksite.”

TECH5 and Solem say their joint solution has already been tested in Chile, and that it “will now be implemented for the active search of COVID-19 cases,” according to a statement.

The Solem project helps to illustrate the breadth of TECH5’s technological portfolio, which also features fingerprint biometrics. Commenting in a statement, TECH5 VP Jeremy James said the collaborative effort “is a great opportunity to introduce [TECH5’s] technologies and solutions to a wider range of customers, as well as prove its effectiveness in various use cases across Latin America.”

It’s an ambitious application of TECH5’s biometric technology, but one that is adjacent to the company’s ongoing efforts in the realm of large-scale biometric digital ID programs. On that front, TECH5 announced that its T5-IDencode solution was compatible with the MOSIP Foundational Identity Platform for national ID in September, and soon after that launched a pilot program revolving around its T5-Digital ID solution for organizations in its partner network.
