TECH5 Lands Biometric Onboarding Contract in South Africa

A South African identity provider is teaming up with TECH5 to improve its onboarding procedures. Contactable runs a digital identity orchestration platform, and it is integrating TECH5’s T5-AirSnap Face solution to offer selfie-based onboarding to its clients.

T5-AirSnap Face is a contactless biometric capture tool that asks users to take a selfie to register their identity remotely. Contactable will initially offer the utility to clients being onboarded through the web, though it is planning to extend the utility to smartphones in the not-too-distant future. The company is also hoping to adopt other TECH5 technologies somewhere down the line.

The T5-AirSnap Face solution itself is compatible with Android and iOS devices, and is available as an SDK for web deployments. The solution takes advantage of the built-in cameras that come with modern smartphones and desktop computers, and can process images on-device to ensure a high quality image capture. In that regard, TECH5’s software analyzes factors like the lighting conditions and the camera angle, and then relays that information to the user to help them take a picture that rises above a certain quality standard.

The TECH5 offering is compliant with the latest ICAO guidelines, while the images themselves are backed up with liveness detection to prevent fraud. Contactable is procuring T5-AirSnap Face through a flexible commercial model that keeps costs in line with demand.

TECH5 also offers a T5-AirSnap Finger solution for contactless fingerprint capture. TrueID is already leveraging that technology to help South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs make better use of its fingerprint database during the pandemic. Guinea and Ethiopia are currently using TECH5’s technology in their own national identity programs.
