“Whether it is a fraudulent claim to a land title, ownership of a vehicle, educational qualification or a professional certification, the consequences can be dramatic; we all want the certainty of knowing that the surgeon performing our operation is indeed qualified to do so.” -Rob Haslam, Strategic Advisor, TECH5
A new partnership between Landqart AG and TECH5 has delivered what may be one of the most high-security certificates yet devised.
Based in Switzerland, Landqart AG is a manufacturer of high-quality paper with a history going back 150 years, and which now has a presence in 50 countries. TECH5, meanwhile, is a renowned specialist in face, fingerprint, and iris biometrics that has been solidifying its presence in digital ID and onboarding.
The companies have now combined their complementary expertise in a physical/digital certificate that offers a remarkably high degree of certainty in documentation. It combines Landqart’s Durasafe Certify paper-polymer composite substrate with TECH5’s digital ID technology.
Durasafe Certify is a highly durable substrate that can incorporate physical security elements like watermarks, transparent windows, and security threads and fibers, and is security-print ready. It can be incorporated into a range of documents to offer a durable, long-lasting stamp of approval – but that alone still wouldn’t guarantee a link between a given document and its holder.
That’s where TECH5’s T5-Cryptographic solution comes in. Recently showcased at ID4Africa, the solution can encode face or fingerprint biometrics data into a printable format. That data can be verified with a mobile scan, matching the biometric data to the face or fingerprint of a document holder – all using a standard smartphone camera.
“By combining an innovative new substrate that is more secure and more durable than anything else available on the market, with class-leading biometric encoding and verification capabilities, the partnership between Landqart and TECH5 brings to the certificate market an offering that leverages the latest technologies and is truly fit for purpose in a world where fraud is on the rise,” explained Landqart Director of Marketing Services Richard Perera.
The solution is available to issuers and integrators through both companies’ partner networks. Its announcement arrives soon after news that TECH5 will be proceeding to the pre-launch phase of a national biometric ID program in Ethiopia after a successful pilot program.
