“This technology, which we at TECH5 developed with different objectives in mind far before the pandemic, is designed to increase the scalability of fingerprint-based solutions and reduce the dependency on costly purpose-built hardware that traditionally drives up costs in large-scale projects.” – Rahul Parthe, CTO, Chairman and Co-Founder, TECH5
TECH5 has launched a new mobile-based solution for capturing fingerprint biometrics. Dubbed “T5-AirSnap Finger”, it is available in the form of a Software Development Kit, or as part of the T5-Digital ID toolkit.
While built-in fingerprint sensors are common on mobile devices, the TECH5 solution is not aimed at authentication a smartphone’s owner, but rather at enabling the contactless capture of other people’s fingerprints. Thanks to its AI algorithms, the system is capable of finger detection, enhancing, and image processing, and TECH5 says it has a liveness detection feature as well.
Once a fingerprint image is scanned, it can be transmitted to a remote database for biometric matching.
“T5-AirSnap Finger helps solve pandemic-related concerns related to the use of touch technologies,” explained TECH5 CTO, Chairman, and co-founder Rahul Parthe. “This technology, which we at TECH5 developed with different objectives in mind far before the pandemic, is designed to increase the scalability of fingerprint-based solutions and reduce the dependency on costly purpose-built hardware that traditionally drives up costs in large-scale projects.”
TECH5 CEO and co-founder Machiel van der Harst, meanwhile, emphasized the solution’s broad range of applications, which include banking, access control, national ID, and vaccination programs, among others. He asserted that T5-AirSnap Finger has already been tested by some of the company’s partners and is already being deployed in Latin America and Africa.
The solution’s launch offers another indication of TECH5’s brisk pace of business activity. Over the past month alone, the company has announced a payment authentication project getting underway in India, compliance with MOSIP’s Foundational Identity Platform on the part of its T5-IDencode solution, and a new pilot program for its T5-Digital ID solution. Its new partner Imageware, meanwhile, announced that it had integrated TECH5 technology into its own product portfolio.
TECH5’s new T5-AirSnap Finger solution is being launched alongside a refined matching algorithm, and the company says it plans to launch an iris-focused AirSnap solution in the near future.
