“We believe that our combined solution will provide high value to countries that are establishing identity management systems.”
TECH5 has officially become the first ABIS vendor to integrate with the MOSIP platform, making it compatible with its T5-ABIS solution and various biometric SDKs. MOSIP is an open-source platform that allows organizations to create digital IDs that can be used to grant access to various goods and services.
Developed by the International Institute of Information Technology in Bangalore (IIIT-B), MOSIP was specifically designed with an eye towards the public sector. It takes a cue from India’s Aadhaar system, and can serve as the foundation of a national ID program that helps with the distribution of services like healthcare and social security.
The TECH5 integration will enable biometric enrollment and authentication through face, fingerprint, and iris recognition, although clients are free to choose their own hardware. The open source platform allows clients to deploy a functioning ID system without needing to build their own technology, and will also allow those clients to swap in new components and update the system on the fly. Doing so does not require re-registration or an overhaul of the system.
“We believe that our combined solution will provide high value to countries that are establishing identity management systems,” said TECH5 Chairman and Co-Founder Rahul Parthe.
“Every individual should have the ability to assert their identity and get access to public services and benefits,” added MOSIP’s Srijoni Sen. “MOSIP’s open architecture, and the participation of companies who share this vision, can go a long way towards making this vision possible.”
Morocco will be the first country to deploy MOSIP after signing a Memorandum of Understanding back in 2018. If it goes well, it will likely create more interest in the MOSIP platform as other countries look to create their own national ID programs.
