Synaptics biometric technology has been integrated into two new smartphones from ASUS. The Zenfone 3 Deluxe and the ZenFone 3 Ultra each feature an FS4300, one of Synaptics’ Natural ID fingerprint sensor models.
The integrations validate speculation from the end of last year that ASUS would be offering its first fingerprint scanner-equipped smartphone in the late spring of this year. In a statement announcing the integrations, ASUS product manager Anthony Gioeli said that the company’s team is “very excited” about the new biometric capabilities. “Adding the convenience and security of fingerprint biometrics was an important upgrade, and we look forward to building on this relationship with Synaptics,” he added.
The ASUS integrations follow quickly on the heels of another mobile integration with respect to a major brand’s new tablet, and further extend Synaptics’ presence in the mobile biometrics market, particularly given the ZenFone 3 Ultra’s win of a Best Choice Golden Award at Computex 2016. They also highlight the growing ubiquity of fingerprint scanning technology on smartphones, with ASUS being a prominent brand in the lower-middle range of the smartphone price spectrum.
