“Their collaboration, they said, ‘could result in the United States’ first nationwide biometrics gathering system for broad consumer-focused initiatives.'”
Facial recognition specialist Robbie.AI and fingerprint authentication solutions provider SureID have teamed up, with plans to put their heads together in joint research and development efforts.
In a statement announcing the partnership, the companies explained that their goal is to further expand the use of SureID’s fingerprint scanning kiosks, and to integrate Robbie.AI’s facial recognition technology into them. Their collaboration, they said, “could result in the United States’ first nationwide biometrics gathering system for broad consumer-focused initiatives.”
Elaborating further, the companies offered the example of using their multimodal biometrics to confirm the identities of job applicants, who could first register on a mobile device with a selfie, with facial recognition later used to confirm their identities when they proceed to register their fingerprints at a SureID kiosk. “This new highly secure identity authentication could ensure, via facial recognition technology, that the fingerprints belong to the registrant,” the companies explained.
News of the collaboration comes after SureID announced a new office and a new General Manager this summer, marking the start of a turnaround effort after the loss of a US Navy contract some years ago led to a revenues tailspin and hundreds of layoffs.
