Suprema Readers Deployed For Ugandan Biometric Voter ID

Today Suprema, Inc. announced that it will be providing thousands of fingerprint scanners for citizen voter identification in Uganda. The next presidential election is on track to take place in 2016 and the Suprema RealScan-G10 live scanners are tasked with the enrollment and registration process in the run up to this election.

The RealScan-G10, as its name implies, is a ten print scanner that features high speed capture ideal for this kind of high volume deployment. Additionally it is dust and water resistant, so mobile and indoor deployments are not an issue.

The enrollment process has already commenced, the first supply of the scanners having been deployed earlier this month.

“Suprema is very proud to provide its RealScan-G10, for Uganda’s National Voter Registration Project,” says Young S. Moon, Suprema’s vice president. “We expect the biometrics enrollment of citizens will allow the Ugandan authorities to increase efforts to better protect the identity of citizens additionally to registering them as voters.”

This Ugandan biometric voter ID project is being delivered by Zetes, somewhat of a specialist in this vertical market and Suprema’s global partner. Zetes has already handled similar deployments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Togo, Cape Verde, Burundi, Gabon and Chad.
