Suprema Provides Fingerprint Modules for New BioRugged Handhelds

BioRugged continues to rely on Suprema for its fingerprint authentication needs. The company has announced that it will once again feature Suprema’s fingerprint modules in its next generation of rugged handled devices, building on a partnership that goes back a full ten years.

The new line of BioRugged handhelds includes the RUGGBO 21 Lite, the RUGGBO 31 Lite, the RUGGBO 20R, the RUGGBO 30 RS, the BioWolf 8R, and the BioWolf 10R. Those devices will feature either a BM-Slim2, BM-Slim2S, or BM-Slim3 fingerprint recognition module, all three of which boast FBI and PIV certification. In that regard, the BM-Slim2 is a FAP 20 sensor, while the BM-Slim3 is a FAP 30 counterpart that debuted in 2019.

The BioRugged devices will enable fingerprint capture and subsequent identity verification while in the field. Suprema believes that they will have utility in a number of different sectors, including healthcare, border control, and law enforcement. They can also be used in national ID and voter registration programs, where they can help confirm the identities of individual citizens when they arrive at a polling station. Other applications include more general Know Your Customer (KYC) scans. and SIM registrations.

Suprema has actively collaborated with BioRugged to develop and test new biometric products in the past. The company’s SFU-S20 fingerprint module previously appeared in the BioRugged LCC and BioWolf LE devices back in 2017.

The BM-Slim 3 was integrated into Copperinc’s ID Platform handheld in late 2020. The BM-Slim2, meanwhile, was placed in AMREL’s rugged BIOPTIX and BioSense tablets in 2019, and in a collection of three TazTag devices the year prior.

In other news, BioRugged recently partnered with Vezion in an effort to raise its profile in the Southeast Asian market. Vezion is headquartered in Malaysia, but will act as a BioRugged reseller for the entire region.
