Suprema Inc. has launched the BioStation 3 Max, the South Korean access control and biometrics company’s new flagship AI biometric authentication terminal. The device was previewed at ISC West 2026 and is positioned as Suprema’s highest-specification terminal, superseding the FaceStation F2 as the company’s premium facial authentication product.
The BioStation 3 Max supports six authentication modalities: facial recognition (primary), fingerprint recognition, RFID, mobile credentials, QR code, and PIN. A dedicated Neural Processing Unit delivers facial matching in under 0.3 seconds, including for users in motion. Dual 2-megapixel cameras, one visual and one infrared, provide liveness detection and anti-spoofing capabilities designed to defeat attacks using printed photographs, video replays, and 3D masks.
On security architecture, the device incorporates a Common Criteria EAL6+ certified Secure Element that protects access credentials and encryption keys at the hardware level. EAL6 is among the highest commercial security evaluations for embedded secure elements and is used in high-assurance government and payment systems. The EAL6+ certification applies to the Secure Element component specifically, not to the terminal as a whole. The BioStation 3 Max runs a hardened Linux operating system with Secure Boot, ensuring only verified, signed firmware can execute, and all inter-device communications are secured via TLS. Physical tamper detection triggers immediate alerts on any tampering attempt.
For operators who prefer decentralized biometric storage, the device supports Template-on-Mobile, which stores biometric templates on the user’s smartphone, and Template-on-Card, which stores templates on a smartcard held by the user rather than on the device or a central server. Both options are relevant for organizations operating under GDPR or other data minimization frameworks.
Additional specifications include a 7-inch IPS touchscreen display, capacity for up to 100,000 enrolled users, IP65 dust and water protection, IK06 impact resistance, PoE+ power support on select configurations, and a built-in VoIP intercom with SIP integration for consolidated access control and communication. The device supports both speed gate and wall mount installation and is positioned for environments ranging from corporate lobbies to mission-critical infrastructure entrances.
Hanchul Kim, CEO of Suprema Inc., described the BioStation 3 Max as defining “the new standard for identity-first security.” The launch follows Suprema’s CE RED cybersecurity certification for BioStation 3 in July 2025 and pairs with Suprema’s cloud-native access platform, BioStar Air, introduced in May 2025. Pricing was not disclosed.
