Biometrics and identification technology company Suprema Inc. has launched a fingerprint recognition software developments kit (SDK) for the Android operating system. Designed for use with the company’s BioMini Slim fingerprint scanner, the SDK can enable mobile devices to capture prints in various non-ideal conditions including direct sunlight.
BioMini Slim is FBI-PIV and mobile ID FAP 20 certified. It boasts a IP65 rated dust and waterproof form factor, allowing for use in harsh environments and is equipped with a 500dpi slim optical sensor. The scanner also features anti-spoofing technology in the form of Suprema’s Live Finger Detection technology.
With the launch of its new SDK we see that Suprema is further commitment to the mobile biometrics race.
The company’s vice president, Young S. Moon, comments, “As is the case with other applications, tablets and smartphones are replacing desktops or notebooks as a platform to collect and verify biometric identity. In the near future, we expect to see even more integration of biometrics and mobility. Suprema expects the new SDK for Android will offer strong support in growing the biometrics and ID solutions markets.”
Suprema’s new SDK supports a live preview feature during the verification process. Suprema claims to be the first company to provide this function, which was designed to broaden the range of applications for the BioMini Slim. The company has also launched an Android app in conjunction with the SDK that, among many other things, can provide users with a BioMini Slim demonstration.
With Suprema’s move into the mobility space, a number of interesting applications are presented. The company’s operating partner in the US, UK, Canada and Ireland, Entertech Systems, recently released a new version of its BioConnect physical access management platform that supports smartphone-as-credential deployments.
