Suprema ID‘s fingerprint scanning technology has been integrated into a new handheld device from France-based Coppernic.
Dubbed “ID Platform”, the handheld features Suprema ID’s BM-Slim3, a FAP 30 fingerprint module. Suprema ID designed BM-Slim3 to offer a large scanning area in an ultra-slim form factor.
Importantly, the fingerprint module also features a liveness detection algorithm based on deep learning artificial intelligence technology. Liveness detection is widely seen as an increasingly important component of biometric security for its ability to detect presentation attacks, in which spoof artifacts, like fake fingers with copied prints, are used to attempt to trick an authentication system.
In announcing the integration, Suprema ID CEO Bogun Park framed it as an expansion of the biometrics specialist’s market reach. “At Suprema ID, we are excited to add Coppernic to our expanding portfolio of supported biometric solutions,” he said. “Through our relationship with Coppernic, we will be able to extend the full benefits of our BioMini range fingerprint scanners to more customers worldwide.”
For Coppernic’s part, Managing Director Kevin Lecuivre emphasized the ease of working with Suprema ID, which he said was “easy to do business with.” Lecuivre said that during the integration phase “Suprema ID has been really supportive and enabled us to launch our new ID Platform with FAP30 BM-Slim3 in a very short time.”
The integration’s announcement comes after Suprema ID attained FAP 30 certification for its BM-Slim3 solution toward the end of last summer.
For its part, Coppernic will be targeting its ID Platform solution at a range of markets, with potential applications in finance, education, telecommunications, and citizen ID, among others.
