Suprema ID Launches Compact FAP 60 Fingerprint Scanner

Suprema ID has officially unveiled its newest biometric device, venturing into the territory of FAP 60 fingerprint capture.

Dubbed the ‘RealScan S60’, the device is slim and lightweight, and is designed for fingerprint enrollment. It sports IP65 dust and water resistance, a USB-C connector, and embedded AI-driven presentation attack detection.

Perhaps most importantly, the device is compliant with the FBI FAP 60 specification. This is the category pertaining to the largest scan area covered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Appendix F PIV specifications, meaning that it supports a capture dimension of 3.2 by 3.0 inches, and can scan one to four prints.

Suprema ID says the RealScan S60 can capture single flat fingerprints, single roll scans, dual flats, and 10 prints. What’s more, it’s also available in the form of a module that can be integrated into another piece of hardware.

That having been said, in announcing the new solution, Suprema ID CEO Bogun Park highlighted the form factor of the device.

“The new RealScan S60 is designed to provide a great portability, convenience and high-quality fingerprint image capture in a compact and lightweight FAP 60 device,” he said. “At Suprema ID, our commitment is focused to ensure consistent performance, reliability and usability over dynamic environments. We are confident that the RealScan-S60 will meet clients’ need for a compact and lightweight FBI certified FAP 60 scanner.”

The RealScan S60 offers the latest illustration of Suprema’s focus on delivering a compact form factor; this also appears to have been an important goal in its development of the BioMini Slim 3 optical fingerprint scanner, which was integrated into Laxton Group’s Chameleon devices earlier this year.

Suprema unveiled its new offering at this year’s Connect:ID conference, which ran from October 5 to 6 in Washington, DC.
