Wink, SUNMI, and Qualcomm Technologies have announced a collaboration to bring biometric identity-driven payments to SUNMI’s family of Android-based payment terminals, combining Wink’s multimodal biometric platform with Qualcomm’s edge AI hardware across a globally distributed device footprint.
Wink’s technology enables face, palm, and voice authentication on SUNMI’s mobile, desktop, kiosk, and cPad devices. Authentication is processed on-device, requiring no new hardware and no changes to existing payment rails. The system supports both attended and unattended scenarios across retail, quick-service restaurant, hospitality, and mobility environments, as well as e-commerce channels.
Powering the solution is the Qualcomm Dragonwing platform, which provides edge AI acceleration, on-device biometric matching, and hardware-based security capabilities. Processing biometric data at the device level means authentication data is not transmitted to external servers during a transaction, a design choice that addresses a common objection to biometric payment deployments from privacy-sensitive operators.
“Biometric identity is no longer an experiment — it is becoming the foundation of modern commerce,” said Amitaabh Malhotra, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Wink. “By combining SUNMI’s global payment device footprint with Qualcomm Technologies’ edge AI leadership, we’re bringing production-ready, identity-native checkout to scale.”
Wink was recognized as Best in Class for Biometrics-as-a-Service by Javelin Strategy and Research in 2025. The integrated solution will be demonstrated at ETA Transact at SUNMI Booth 625 and Wink Booth 624.
The partnership extends Wink’s presence in the point-of-sale biometrics market. The company previously partnered with Clover to bring multimodal biometric payments to point of sale, and merged with Phoenix Networks to expand its AI-powered biometric payments infrastructure. The SUNMI deal adds hardware scale: SUNMI operates one of the largest Android payment device fleets globally, giving Wink a distribution channel that spans thousands of merchant locations across multiple verticals.
