Clover and Wink Partner to Bring Multimodal Biometric Payments to Point of Sale

Clover, the commerce and point-of-sale platform owned by Fiserv, has announced a partnership with biometric payments company Wink to introduce what the companies describe as “identity-based payments” across the Clover ecosystem. The integration is being pitched as a way to unify payments, identity, and loyalty using biometric authentication.

The collaboration will integrate Wink’s biometric technologies into Clover devices, enabling consumers to authenticate transactions using modalities including face, palm, and voice. Wink also positions its platform as combining biometric recognition with device intelligence to support payments, fraud prevention, and identity-driven experiences across channels.

Clover and Fiserv say the combined system is designed to reduce checkout times, lower fraud exposure, and increase repeat visits by linking payment, loyalty, and identity into a single flow. A notable technical claim is the use of a secure token vault to manage biometric profiles, with the companies stating that sensitive biometric data is not stored alongside payment credentials.

On the merchant side, the companies highlight features such as biometric checkout with integrated loyalty enrollment and age-restricted commerce. These capabilities are framed as requiring no manual ID checks or staff intervention. Clover also says the solution can link in-store, mobile, and online interactions through a single biometric identity, supporting use cases such as instant age verification and personalised experiences.

The integration is intended to be deployed across existing Clover hardware without requiring device replacements. Supported devices include Clover Station Duo, Mini, Flex, and Clover Kiosk, with the companies emphasising minimal integration effort for merchants.

Initial rollout is expected to focus on quick-service restaurants, sports venues, and retail, with broader availability planned throughout 2026. The solution is scheduled to be demonstrated publicly at NRF 2026 in New York, at the Fiserv booth.

Executives from both companies framed the partnership as a way to make advanced biometric payments accessible to small and mid-sized businesses, while enabling more sophisticated identity-driven commerce models.
