Sumsub Integrates ComplyAdvantage AI Layer for Enhanced AML Screening

Sumsub has integrated ComplyAdvantage’s AI-powered anti-money laundering screening into its identity verification platform, adding automated sanctions, watchlist, and adverse media checks to its existing biometric and document verification workflows.

The integration allows Sumsub’s clients to run AML screening alongside identity verification in a single workflow rather than managing separate systems. ComplyAdvantage’s technology uses machine learning to scan sanctions lists, politically exposed person databases, and adverse media sources in real time, reducing the manual review burden on compliance teams.

Sumsub said the partnership addresses growing demand from regulated industries for unified verification and compliance solutions. Financial services, fintech, and cryptocurrency firms face increasing pressure from regulators to demonstrate robust know-your-customer and AML processes, and fragmented tooling has been a persistent challenge for compliance operations.

The regulatory backdrop is intensifying the pressure. The EU’s Anti-Money Laundering Authority, set to begin operations in 2025, will impose direct supervision on high-risk financial entities across member states, raising the compliance bar for firms operating across multiple jurisdictions. In the U.S., FinCEN’s beneficial ownership reporting requirements under the Corporate Transparency Act have expanded the scope of identity verification obligations beyond traditional financial institutions.

The combined system is designed to reduce onboarding friction for legitimate users while flagging higher-risk applicants for additional review. Sumsub’s platform already handles identity document verification, biometric face matching, and liveness detection across more than 220 countries and territories.

The move reflects a broader trend toward consolidation in the identity verification and compliance technology market, where firms are building or acquiring capabilities across the full customer lifecycle rather than addressing individual checkpoints in isolation.

ComplyAdvantage, which has raised over $100 million in venture funding, provides AML data and screening tools used by financial institutions and fintechs globally. The company’s AI models are trained to reduce false positives, a persistent pain point in traditional sanctions screening that can slow onboarding and increase operational costs.

As part of the partnership, Sumsub is also launching Mesh Bring Your Own Key (BYOK), which allows clients who already hold ComplyAdvantage Mesh API credentials to connect them directly into the Sumsub platform. This approach gives compliance teams flexibility to maintain their existing ComplyAdvantage configurations while benefiting from the unified workflow orchestration that Sumsub provides. Sumsub, which is trusted by over 4,000 companies worldwide, said the BYOK model is designed to accelerate onboarding for enterprises that have already invested in ComplyAdvantage infrastructure and want to avoid duplicating their AML configurations.

The integration is available immediately to Sumsub’s existing customer base and can be activated within existing verification workflows without requiring changes to the existing client lifecycle management infrastructure already in place.
