Sumsub has become the first identity verification service provider accredited under the United Kingdom’s Global Digital Identity Certification (GDIC).
The GDIC is an initiative created by AVID Certification Services Ltd, aimed at establishing a standardized framework for digital identity verification. It is anchored in the ISO/IEC 29115 standard, recognized internationally for its guidelines on secure digital identity management, and is designed to ensure consistent and reliable identity verification practices, focusing on key aspects such as authentication, identity proofing, and security measures.
In addition to its security benefits, the GDIC promotes interoperability and international recognition, aiming for seamless interaction between systems across borders.
AVID Certification Services is a relatively new company, having been incorporated in May of last year. It is registered in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and is mainly known for its GDIC program. The group was founded by Tony Iain Allen, an individual who has previously been involved in a number of identity-related testing and certification schemes, according to government records. These include Age Check Certification Services Ltd., Trust Alliance Group Ltd., and IoT Scheme Ltd.
Sumsub, founded in 2015, is also headquartered in the UK, in London. It offers a range of services designed to streamline the verification process for both individuals and businesses, with a platform known for its flexibility, allowing businesses to customize verification flows to suit different customer groups and regulatory requirements.
Sumsub’s technology employs artificial intelligence to enhance the speed and accuracy of identity verification, reducing the risk of fraud and ensuring high approval rates for user onboarding. It also makes use of sophisticated biometric technology including liveness detection.
Sumsub has been increasingly focused on the threat of deepfake-driven fraud. The company’s Head of AI & ML, Pavel Golman-Kalaydin, detailed the firm’s fraud trend data in a guest article for FindBiometrics earlier this year.
