Russia-based STC Group is celebrating a successful showing at the recent Defense, Security and Public Safety Technologies Fair and Forum (DSS) in Egypt, which wrapped up at the end of November. Only in its second year, the fair attracted 70,000 visitors, and proved to be a meeting ground for solutions providers and procurement officials from the areas of security and defence.
STC was in tow with a team of Russian transport security solutions providers, and in addition to its promotion of its own biometric solutions, the company had some notable wins. For one, it officially signed a partnership agreement with Falcon Group, an Egypt-based security solutions provider specializing in servicing venues of mass gatherings. That could provide new market avenues for STC’s biometric identification solutions. And in a statement the company added that Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi “got acquainted with technologies exhibited by STC and Falcon, and even discussed future prospects for collaboration with representatives of the companies.”
The developments bode well for STC as it seeks to take advantage of a ‘skyrocketing’ Middle East and Africa market, and they come amid warming political relations between Russia and Egypt after an Egypt-based terror attack against a Russian civilian plane last year. In fact in late summer Russian officials suggested they would resume flights to the country provided Egypt implements biometric security in its airports, and given that one of the key solutions being showcased at DSS by STC was its biometric airport security system SmartTracker.FRS, there may be some specific opportunities emerging for the company in this area.
