In partnership with STC Group and SITE Technology, the American University of Science & Technology (AUST) has opened a new biometric forensics laboratory in Lebanon.
The lab opened with introductory lectures and workshops led by representatives from STC, which offers biometric technology, specializing particularly in the area of voice biometrics. And the company says that next year it will provide the school with new biometric equipment, and will offer a “Multi-Level Program For Forensics & Biometrics”, according to a statement.
It’s the kind of academic partnership that the company’s US subsidiary, SpeechPro, has engaged in with West Virginia University. For Russia-based STC, the AUST collaboration appears to offer an opportunity to further expand its presence in the Middle East, with STC having showcased its technology at the Defense, Security and Public Safety Technologies Fair and Forum in Egypt at the end of last year, and established a new partnership with Egyptian security solutions provider Falcon.
STC says that AUST representatives are currently in talks with Saint Petersburg’s ITMO University to establish an advanced education program in speech information systems, which could further cement SpeechPro’s academic ties in both countries in the future.
