Sphinx has launched Sphinx Doc Fraud, a document fraud detection product designed for KYC, KYB, and proof-of-income workflows. The tool uses AI to flag forged and AI-generated documents at onboarding, targeting fraudulent files that legacy verification systems commonly miss.
The product analyzes submitted documents for signs of forgery by examining production methods, template divergence, and metadata rather than relying on a single fraud score. Each flagged document is accompanied by an explanation of why it was identified as suspicious, giving compliance teams auditable context for their decisions.
Sphinx Doc Fraud is aimed at banks, fintechs, crypto companies, and credit unions that process high volumes of identity and business documents during customer and counterparty onboarding. The company says the tool addresses a gap in existing compliance stacks where document verification is often limited to basic template matching or optical character recognition, leaving sophisticated forgeries undetected.
The launch follows Sphinx’s $7.1 million fundraise and a series of product expansions across its compliance automation platform. The Y Combinator-backed company offers AI-powered compliance tools that automate AML alert triage, customer onboarding, and ongoing monitoring. Sphinx has built its platform around what it calls an Interpretable Agentic Framework, in which AI-driven compliance decisions are designed to be auditable, reproducible, and defensible.
Document fraud has become an increasingly pressing concern for financial services compliance teams as generative AI tools make it easier to produce convincing forged documents. AU10TIX has also expanded its document authentication capabilities to address non-ID document fraud in onboarding workflows, reflecting broader industry demand for tools that go beyond traditional identity document checks.
Sphinx’s platform also includes enrichment tools that aggregate data from external sources for due diligence, alert assessment capabilities that resolve compliance cases, and lifecycle management features for ongoing customer monitoring. The Doc Fraud product integrates into the existing Sphinx onboarding workflow, allowing compliance teams to add document authenticity checks without rebuilding their verification stack. The company says the tool is available immediately and requires no code integration for existing customers.
