Socure is getting involved in America’s most high-profile project to establish secure access to government e-services. The company has announced that it will work with Xcelerate Solutions on an online identity verification system meant for Login.gov, the central platform for access to federal services.
The General Services Administration selected eight companies through the NextGen Login.gov Identity Proofing Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) program earlier this year. These included Aderas, Carahsoft, Celerity Government Solutions, Diamond Capture Associates, Experian Information Solutions, Idemia Identity & Security USA, LexisNexis Special Services, and TransUnion.
Xcelerate Solutions is the brand name of Celerity Government Solutions, and, like the other seven companies, has been granted a position on a set of 10-year blanket purchase agreements with a combined value of up to $194.5 million.
Socure, for its part, is known for its advanced identity verification and fraud risk assessment technologies, which often incorporate biometric data as part of their multi-factor identity verification processes. It’s well-established in the IDV space, having obtained NIST Identity Assurance Level 2 (IAL2) certification through the Kantara Initiative back in early 2022.
In its work under the NextGen Login.gov Identity Proofing BPA with Xcelerate, it will focus on supporting three key “Functional Areas”, including “Document Capture, Authentication, and Validation,” “Biometric Comparison,” and “Identity Resolution.”
“Collaborating with Socure on the GSA NextGen Login.gov Identity Proofing project demonstrates our understanding of this important mission and our dedication to offering the most advanced technology solutions in the service of public good,” stated Jim Dufford, Xcelerate’s Program Manager.
Socure VP Jordan Burris emphasized his firm’s commitment to delivering “the transformative technologies needed to support their mission and equitably identify people online.”
First launched by the GSA in 2017, Login.gov was created to simplify and secure the user experience across various government services by allowing users to create a single account that can be used to access multiple federal agencies’ online services. Over the years, Login.gov has expanded its reach, supporting over 70 million users and numerous federal and state agencies.
In response to a 2021 report by the GSA Inspector General highlighting compliance issues with NIST standards, the platform began integrating biometric technology for enhanced identity verification. In May of this year, Hanna Kim was appointed as the new director of the program, and given a mandate to develop an optimized pricing structure and oversee a pilot program for selfie-based biometric identity verification.
