“In its statement announcing the Smartisan Nut Pro2 integration, FPC asserted that the device uses the sensor to secure payments on the Alipay and WeChat Pay mobile commerce platforms…”
Another new smartphone is using a Fingerprint Cards sensor model designed specifically for undercover deployments.
The device in question comes by way of China-based electronics company Smartisan. Its Smartisan Nut Pro2 features the FPC1272 fingerprint sensor, which is designed to be implemented under cover glass or even a layer of ceramic.
News of the integration comes on the heels of FPC’s announcement last week that an unnamed Taiwan-based OEM deployed the FPC1272 in another smartphone, marking the sensor’s first officially announced integration. The new sensor appears to be part of FPC’s innovation strategy as it seeks to maintain its competitive edge in what is now a challenging and volatile mobile biometrics market.
In its statement announcing the Smartisan Nut Pro2 integration, FPC asserted that the device uses the sensor to secure payments on the Alipay and WeChat Pay mobile commerce platforms, and that the FPC1272 offers an authentication speed of 0.17 seconds for phone unlocking.
