SmartCore Upgrades Airport Kiosks with Integrated Biometrics Tech

South Korea-based SmartCore has upgraded its biometric airport kiosks at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport. The kiosks now feature fingerprint scanning technology from Integrated Biometrics.

While SmartCore’s airport kiosks have been scanning visitors’ fingerprints for years now, the company has now opted for Integrated Biometrics’ Columbo fingerprint sensor solution for its reliability and its FBI certification for FAP 30 compliance. The sensor is now being used in the SmartCore MBAS Plus kiosks to more effectively scan travelers against criminal and terrorist databases.

In a statement announcing the upgrade, SmartCore COO Ryan Kim lauded Integrated Biometrics’ technology. “We needed a solution that connected our products with international law enforcement, as well as take the daily pounding that comes from immigration control queues at a major international airport,” he explained. “Columbo exceeds our highest expectations.”

The upgrade comes at a time of growing interest in biometric airport screening, both on the part of the air travel industry and government officials keen to improve border security. SmartCore’s kiosk upgrade should help to serve the latter interest in particular at the Incheon International Airport.
