Blockchain-based smart ring startup CUDIS has integrated the World App, allowing users to verify and secure their biometric data through World’s proof-of-human technology. The integration aims to enhance privacy and enables self-custody of data onchain, using a decentralized storage system via the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).
The smart ring is similar to the Oura ring but integrated with decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN), meaning it connects to and interacts with a distributed system of physical devices or infrastructure (like sensors, servers, or devices) that are not controlled by a single entity. The ring tracks users’ health data and rewards them for activities such as engaging with their AI fitness coach.
Now, it will support World ID, a digital identity system that verifies a person’s uniqueness through biometric data, specifically iris scans. World ID is part of the World Network (formerly known as Worldcoin), a project aimed at addressing challenges like deepfakes and AI-related identity threats by ensuring users are verified as real individuals.
World ID holders receive a digital passport that confirms their identity without compromising privacy, and the system integrates with blockchain technology for secure, decentralized data management. The initiative was co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Alex Blania, and rewards users with WRD tokens for submitting their biometric data.
In addition to this integration, CUDIS is launching a limited edition ring for World ID holders. CUDIS CEO Edison Chen emphasized the security benefits of encrypting users’ biometric data with private keys, ensuring transparency and trust through blockchain technology.
CUDIS, which has sold 10,000 devices since May, is preparing to airdrop a Solana-based token by the end of the year and recently introduced an NFT series called Edamame. The startup raised $5 million in seed funding led by Draper Associates and partners with entities like Saga DAO and Helium Mobile.
