SITA and Palo Alto Networks have formed a strategic partnership to strengthen cybersecurity protection for critical airport applications and transportation systems. The collaboration integrates Palo Alto Networks’ AI-powered security platforms into SITA’s cybersecurity portfolio through the new SITA Managed Security Service Edge (SSE).
The comprehensive security solution will protect various airport assets, including check-in workstations, self-service kiosks, mobile devices, and baggage scanning equipment. The integration encompasses multiple technologies, including Next Generation Firewalls, Prisma SD-WAN Instant-On Network devices, and Prisma Access for cloud-based protection. This development follows recent trends in aviation industry modernization, particularly in securing digital infrastructure for passenger processing systems.
SITA’s Managed SSE incorporates several security services, such as secure web gateways, intrusion detection, threat intelligence, next-generation antivirus capabilities through WildFire, DNS protection, SSL decryption, and data loss prevention. The system operates under SITA’s CyberSOC management and adheres to industry compliance standards including NIST and ISO 27000. This comprehensive approach aligns with the increasing focus on standardized security protocols in aviation, particularly as airports worldwide adopt more connected technologies.
“The need to protect vital digital applications within the transportation industry has never been more acute, given the ever-evolving threat from cyber-attacks,” said Martin Smillie, SITA Senior Vice President for Communications and Data Exchange. “This agreement delivers industry-leading cybersecurity protection for our airport, airline, and other customers, in mission-critical areas of their operation.”
The partnership leverages Palo Alto Networks’ Precision AI technology to provide advanced threat protection and automation capabilities. Patricia Murphy, VP EMEA & LATAM Ecosystems at Palo Alto Networks, noted that the collaboration “will begin a transformation of cybersecurity in the air transport industry, helping ensure that critical systems are protected with the most advanced cybersecurity platforms available.”
The implementation aims to enhance passenger flow efficiency, reduce operational downtime, and strengthen resilience against cyber threats across aviation and transportation sectors. The solution functions as part of SITA’s broader Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) framework, extending protection to remote sites and mobile workforces throughout the transportation infrastructure.
