SITA announced that it has finalized the acquisition of Materna IPS, following the completion of regulatory and legal procedures, a strategic move that aims to establish the world’s most comprehensive passenger service portfolio for airports and digital travel.
The integration of Materna IPS is expected to accelerate the digitalization of global aviation, enhancing processes such as check-in, baggage handling, and security. As a result, passengers may experience reduced wait times, smoother journeys, and more personalized digital services.
The integration leverages Materna IPS’s expertise in common use check-in solutions at kiosks, counters, and online, complementing SITA’s portfolio, which includes biometrics, computer vision, digital travel, and airport operations management.
Materna IPS contributes secure solutions for all passenger touchpoints, from check-in to baggage claim and boarding, along with specialist knowledge, customized solutions, agile support, and a broader range of services to SITA’s offerings.
With a presence in about 120 airports worldwide, the integration of Materna IPS helps to further position SITA as a leader in tech solutions like self-bag drop, and bolsters its profile in biometrics, serving 85 percent of international air passengers globally, as well as in Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) and Common Use Self Service (CUSS) kiosks.
SITA’s CEO, David Lavorel, highlighted the importance of the acquisition.
“As we complete these final steps, we’re looking forward to Materna IPS joining the SITA Group,” he said. “Our focus will now move to unifying our teams as we work towards combining our solutions and expertise. With the extraordinary talent and innovative solutions brought to the table by both SITA and Materna IPS, we’ll create a unique and comprehensive portfolio of solutions. This will make traveling easier and more seamless for passengers around the world as we reshape the future of travel.”
