Frankfurt Airport is partnering with SITA in an effort to advance its digital transformation. To that end, the Airport will be installing 87 of SITA’s TS6 Kiosks to improve the passenger experience in Terminals 1 and 2.
The TS6 Kiosks are biometric kiosks that can be used to check in, and to print luggage tags for a self-drop bag drop service. In doing so, they help minimize the number of physical touchpoints that passengers encounter as they move through the airport. The 87 kiosks will be in place before the end of the year, and represent SITA’s largest kiosk deployment in Europe thus far.
As far as the airport is concerned, the kiosks are appealing because they have a modular design that will allow Frankfurt administrators to update the kiosks as new technology becomes available. With that in mind, the kiosks will help reduce operating costs since Frankfurt will be able to replace individual parts without replacing an entire unit. The TS6 Kiosks provide a consistent experience across multiple airlines, and can be custom-branded to fit the desired aesthetic of the airport.
“Offering passengers innovative, safer, and smarter ways to travel while also ensuring we have resilient and efficient airport operations is vital as our industry recovers from the impact of the pandemic,” said Fraport Aviation & Infrastructure Executive Director Pierre-Dominique Prümm.
“Technology holds the keys to unlocking smarter and safer travel for all, recouping revenues lost during the past 18 months, and ensuring flexible operations that can adapt to the unforeseen circumstances of tomorrow,” added SITA Europe President Sergio Colella. “A more robust and sustainable air transport industry will benefit passengers, economies, and jobs.”
The news comes a few months after SITA installed 35 TS6 Kiosks at Václav Havel Airport in Prague. The company has advocated for the use of biometric kiosks within the Schengen Border area, and it has also provided self-service kiosks for Bole International Airport in Ethiopia.
