Singapore Joins US Global Entry Border Screening Program

Singapore has become the second Asian country and the seventh in the world to partner with the US Customs and Border Protection agency’s Global Entry program.

Part of the CBP’s Trusted Traveler Program, Global Entry allows for the expedited border processing of pre-approved travellers flying between member countries. As part of the program, participants are also eligible for TSA PreCheck, the biometric security screening program.

These are increasingly popular options for travelers at a time when border authorities view security screening as a critical matter, and wait times at airports swell during the busy travel season. Near the start of the year, TSA PreCheck enrollments passed the two million mark, and the CBP says Global Entry overall has three million members, with about 100,000 applications for the program filed monthly.

In addition to TSA PreCheck, the CBP has lately been exploring its own biometric screening options at a couple of major US airports. Singapore, meanwhile, offers a reciprocal expedited screening program for US citizens coming to visit, and its Changi airport recently announced plans to introduce biometric eGates in the near future.
