A new partnership could significantly extend the reach of the Itsme mobile ID platform: Signicat, the Norway-based provider of a digital identity platform claiming a client base of over 200 financial services organizations, has added Itsme to its Signicat Digital Identity Platform.
The product of a collaboration between Belgian Mobile ID and Gemalto, Itsme is a mobile ID system designed to let citizens register using the biometric capabilities of their smartphones, and to then connect with a range of digital services. The system has been in place in Belgium for about a year, but it’s a small country, and Itsme only has somewhere around 350,000 users; Signicat’s platform, however, extends to over 20 eID schemes across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and The Netherlands, offering a considerable growth opportunity for Itsme.
In a statement announcing the partnership, the companies explained that it will allow businesses throughout Europe to accept Itsme as official ID. Elaborating further, Signicat CEO Gunnar Nordseth said the integration “means that businesses across Europe can quickly and securely on-board Belgian customers, digitally, in minutes – and have trust in their identities – without any need for excessive paperwork.”
As part of the agreement, Signicat has become a value-added reseller of Itsme, with the company aiming to promote Itsme’s benefits for not only onboarding and authentication, but also e-signing and regulatory compliance with respect to KYC, AML, and the European Union’s recently imposed GDPR law.
