The Security Industry Association (SIA) is introducing a new testing program for access control and security products. The ODSP Verified program will evaluate those products to determine whether or not they meet the SIA’s Open Supervised Device Protocol (ODSP) standard.
The ODSP standard was developed to promote interoperability in the access control industry. A product that is ODSP Verified should work well with other security products, and will be strong enough for governments and other environments with high-level security requirements.
“SIA OSDP has been steadily gaining momentum as the standard for secure access control,” said SIA Standards Director Joe Gittens. “The OSDP Verified program will provide an authoritative listing of OSDP solutions and reduce confusion in the access control ecosystem.”
If a product makes it through the ODSP Verified program, the company that makes the product will be able to market it using the ODSP Verified mark. The product will also be added to the official ODSP Verified Product List. There is no annual membership fee associated with the program, and those in the program will have access to open-source testing tools and regular feedback from the community.
The SIA recently emphasized the need to maintain strong security practices in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. The organization is the Premier Sponsor of ISC West, which was pushed back to July due to public health concerns related to the pandemic.
