The Security Industry Association (SIA) is once again accepting applications for its SIA RISE Scholarship program. Winners of the RISE Scholarship will receive $3,000 to put toward a range of professional development activities.
The program is open to SIA student members, and to young professionals active in the SIA RISE community. Those in the latter group need to be working for a company that is a member of the SIA, and should have at least one year of experience in the security industry at large.
The SIA RISE program was set up to help guide the careers of those just entering the security industry. With that in mind, the organization expects recipients to use RISE Scholarship funding to continue their education, or to complete various training and certification courses. That can include the SIA’s own Certified Security Project Manager and Security Industry Cybersecurity Certification credentials, though winners are free to pursue training and credentials offered by other organizations.
Winners can also use the money to pay down their student loans, or to attend conferences and other professional and networking events. The SIA will accept applications from people in virtually any area of the security industry, including human resources and marketing in addition to engineering, project management, and information technology.
“Applying for a SIA RISE Scholarship is an important step young professionals and students could take to expand their education and grow their skills,” said SIA CEO Don Erickson. “Individuals entering the application process should realize they have a unique opportunity to inspire peers and be recognized for a notable accomplishment in their careers.”
All SIA RISE Scholarship applications must be in by Friday, October 8. The SIA awarded scholarships to five winners in 2020, while two 2018 winners now serve as the Chair and Vice Chair of the RISE Steering Committee.
