The Security Industry Association (SIA) is now accepting nominations for its eighth annual Women in Biometrics Awards. The Women in Biometrics Awards were established in 2015 to celebrate the pioneering accomplishments of women in the biometrics industry.
This year’s awards will be handed out during the SIA GovSummit in Washington, DC. The actual ceremony will take place in person on Tuesday, May 24.
Nominations, meanwhile, will be accepted until April 15. The SIA welcomes submissions for women who are active in any area within the biometrics space, whether they are working directly for a biometric developer, or for a systems integrator or an organization that interacts with end users. The organization will also consider nominations for those in academia.
Regardless of their role, nominees will be evaluated based on the primary criteria of leadership, participation, innovation, and mentorship. Nominees will have demonstrated excellence in at least one category, whether they are helping to educate the public with outreach efforts, shaping biometric legislation, or are in the lab working to create new technologies. The winners will be selected by a panel of judges that includes a mix of industry professionals and prior winners at the Women in Biometrics Awards.
Each recipient will receive an online profile and be invited to attend the live ceremony on May 24. Last year’s winners were Marta Garcia Gomar of IDENTY Touchless ID and Amy Turluck of the Department of Defense’s Biometrics Operations Directorate.
FindBiometrics is a proud sponsor of the SIA’s Women in Biometrics Awards. The SIA itself also runs a Women in Security Forum, which recognizes women in the broader security industry with its annual Power 100 list, and tries to create a path for the next generation with the Women in Security Forum Scholarship program. The Scholarship program is geared toward women who are just starting their careers in the security industry.
