SecureRedact Makes Videos Anonymous with Facial De-Recognition

When it comes to facial recognition, most providers are trying to make it easier to identify individual faces in a crowd. With the launch of SecureRedact, Pimloc is trying to to do the opposite. The new platform uses machine learning technology to scan thousands of hours of video footage, scrubbing any faces that it finds in the process.

The goal is to make it easier for brands, venue security, law enforcement, and other institutions to comply with privacy regulations like GDPR and California’s Consumer Privacy Act. SecureRedact makes every video anonymous by default, eliminating any recognizable biometric information and drastically reducing the time needed to do so.   

SecureRedact is available in the cloud or on premise, and is designed to be effective regardless of the quality of the footage, whether it was pulled from a grainy CCTV camera or recorded in adverse weather and lighting conditions. Pimloc’s pricing will be based on usage.

Consumers, lawmakers, and advocacy groups have been increasingly wary of facial recognition as the technology has improved, with a proposed ban on facial recognition surveillance even generating publicity in Silicon Valley earlier in the year. SecureRedact offers a simple solution that restores a bit of anonymity without sacrificing the personal convenience of facial recognition tech. That could make people feel far more comfortable in public spaces if it becomes the standard.
