SecuGen has officially announced the next addition to its Hamster line of fingerprint readers, and will showcase it at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show.
The Hamster Pro 10 is a sequel to the Hamster Pro 20 from a few years ago. It’s an FBI-certified, FAP 10 fingerprint reader in a compact form factor, with SecuGen positioning it for integration with consumer electronics including laptops and smartphones. And it’s powered by SecuGen’s U10 optical fingerprint sensor, which the company says is “among the smallest, high image quality optical fingerprint sensors on the market today with a thickness of just over 13 millimeters,” according to a statement announcing the Hamster Pro 10.
Summarizing the new device’s value proposition, SecuGen VP of Engineering Dan Riley asserted that the company’s team “has taken SecuGen’s optical fingerprint technology and scaled it down to a tiny sensor while retaining its renowned image quality.” CEO Won Lee added that the company has already received “amazing feedback” from “a major manufacturer for a laptop design that incorporates the U10 sensor.”
SecuGen will showcase the new device from booth #21767 at CES 2018, which will run in Las Vegas from January 9th to 12th. Soon after that, in Q2, both the Hamster Pro 10 and the U10 sensor will be available to customers.
