Today, SecuGen has announced the release of its new Hamster Pro Duo/CL – a biometric reader that combines contactless smartcard reading capabilities with a FAP 20, PIV optical fingerprint reader.
The Hamster Pro Duo/CL is designed for deployments that require fingerprint templates stored on contactless smartcards (SecuGen gives the example of National ID projects). It is described as a dual mode device, featuring the company’s larger platen high quality fingerprint reader and the aforementioned card reader.
The U20 USB fingerprint sensor, which is featured on the new Hamster, is FBI certified, adhering to FAP 20 and PIV standards.
According to the press release announcing the new device, the Hamster Pro Duo/CL is available immediately at what is described as an affordable price.
“The Hamster Pro Duo/CL was developed in close collaboration with one of our partners,” explains Jeff Brown, vice president of sales at SecuGen. “Over the years, we have worked more and more closely with our partners in defining the products we sell. We are very confident that a combination fingerprint and contactless smartcard device will find uses around the globe in today’s rapidly expanding biometrics industry.”
The company CEO, Won Lee, spoke to the release, saying, “We are very pleased to be able to announce the availability of the Hamster Pro Duo/CL. We continue to listen to our partners to bring powerful, easy to use products to the marketplace. The Hamster Pro Duo/CL is a fruit of these efforts.”
SecuGen will be at next year’s CES in Las Vegas this coming January where the Hamster Pro Duo/CL will be showcased.
Recently, FindBiometrics interviewed Secugen’s CEO, Won Lee. The discussion begins with an overview of the company history before getting into the details of SecuGen’s expansion into India and how the company is going to be making moves in the mobile space.
