Fingerprint biometrics specialist SecuGen has announced a new development platform designed to facilitate the easy and effective integration of biometric capabilities to a range of products and applications.
Called Unity BDP, the platform incorporates an open Linux operating system and a FAP 20 certified fingerprint sensor, all on a modular design intended to improve versatility and scalability. It also features an API allowing software developers and programmers to leverage its matching algorithms and template extraction, which is NIST-certified. Going forward, SecuGen is exploring the incorporation of Bluetooth, ethernet, keypads, LED/LCD displays, RS-232 data transmission, and USB connectivity into the development platform.
Commenting on Unity BDP in a press release, SecuGen marketing VP Jeff Brown called it “revolutionary” while the company’s Engineering VP, Dan Riley, said “it represents a quantum leap in OEM fingerprint technology.” CEO Won Lee asserted that, in incorporating the range of technologies that SecuGen has developed over many years into one development platform, it “is the culmination of a decade of effort.”
Given SecuGen’s profile in the industry, with its U20 and SDA04PX sensors having been showcased at last year’s CES and its Hamster Pro 20 fingerprint reader having attained IP65 certification this past summer, its latest offering should prove uniquely appealing to clients looking for a comprehensive biometric integration platform.
