Fingerprint biometrics company SecuGen has announced a major new product that it plans to show off at this year’s RSA Conference. Called the Hamster Pro, the fingerprint reader will also be available in a version specifically for OEMs, called the UPx sensor.
In a statement announcing the device, SecuGen calls it “compact, accurate, and robust”, and asserts that it’s also the company’s “lowest price fingerprint reader to date.” This last point is one that SecuGen is keen to emphasize, with the product’s low cost offering particular advantages to OEMs preparing large-scale deployments. Summing up the value proposition, SecuGen VP of Engineering Dan Riley says the “Hamster Pro fingerprint reader and UPx sensor are remarkable in that they combine the ability to capture a high contrast, high quality image with rock bottom prices.”
Compatible with SecuGen’s Windows, Android, and Linux development kits, the sensors are scheduled for launch this March. And before that they will be showcased at RSA 2016 alongside SecuGen’s UN20 Serial OEM sensor and the company’s Unity Biometric Development Platform more generally.
