The flip phone is making a comeback in China thanks to a new dual-screen device from Samsung.
It isn’t some back-to-basics flip phone. Called the Samsung G-9298 (or ‘Leader 8’), the device has a 4.2″ screen on the inside, and another 4.2″ screen on the outside. It supports wireless charging and Samsung Pay, and features an embedded fingerprint sensor.
The device follows two other new flip smartphones released by Samsung this year, the Folder Flip 2, which launched in Korea, and the W2017, which was only available in China. The G-9298 is also only available in China, and accordingly won’t support Samsung’s new Bixby AI assistant, which is only fluent in Korean and English at the moment.
It isn’t yet clear when the G-9298 will launch or what it’s price will be, but Samsung is clearly betting that putting new features in an old form could appeal to some nostalgic consumers.
