Safran has reached a significant milestone in one of its long-term identity projects. The company has announced that it has now delivered 10 million electronic ID cards in Chile.
It’s part of a 10-year contract that the company won in 2012. The company is tasked with managing the distribution of its eID cards, which authorities are able to use with a biometric identification system supporting fingerprint and facial recognition. The eID solution just attained FIDO certification last month, and is aimed at improving identity security for Chileans.
The attendant Civil Registry and Identification Service support went live a little over three years ago, and in reaching the 10 million mark with respect to issuance, Safran has now provided eIDs to 57 percent of the country’s population. It’s aiming to reach the entire population, which will exceed 18 million, by 2022.
