ROC has launched the third-generation iteration of its biometric software development kit, which supports the face, fingerprint, and iris modalities. It also has more general computer vision capabilities, with support for object recognition.
The company has established itself in recent years as a leading Western vendor of biometric technologies, particularly with respect to facial recognition. Its face biometrics technology has consistently performed exceptionally well in independent testing by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and has helped to foster partnerships with other companies, including Yoti, which signed up to use ROC’s face technology in its own digital identity platform toward the end of last year.
That having been said, in announcing the new SDK upgrade, ROC co-founder and Chief Scientist Brendan Klare emphasized the platform’s advancements with respect to fingerprint and iris recognition in particular.
“Our iris algorithm can search databases 100 times faster than competitors, while our fingerprint algorithm identifies latent prints over 150 times faster than any other solution benchmarked in NIST ELFT,” he said.
CEO Scott Swann, meanwhile, continued to emphasize ROC’s unique position as a leading biometrics vendor based in the United States.
“As the only multimodal biometrics and computer vision provider that’s proudly 100% American made, we are closing the gap in global biometrics faster than ever,” he said. “This is a critical differentiator for our national security apparatus, who have relied heavily on foreign-developed algorithms in the past, but now have a viable, globally competitive, homegrown option.”
Along with the SDK upgrade, ROC has also announced its official rebrand from its previous name, Rank One Computing—a move that won’t surprise anyone who has been following the company for the last several months as the acronym has prevailed in its news coverage.
ROC’s SDK and rebrand announcements come shortly after the company named Susan Amick, a biometrics industry veteran, as its new VP of Business Development for Commercial Markets in December.
